Last summer Jeff & I did the L.A.T.E. Ride Chicago event and we had such a blast! Recently the email came thru my inbox to register for this years ride and you bet your little butt we signed up!Read on

Ribeye Steak and Steamed Broccoli

Ribeye Steak and Steamed Broccoli

A few weeks back I tried out my first Crossfit class and came home ready to eat dinner, but of course I needed to make it first! I’m so glad I had meat and veggies ready in the fridge to take out & cook up in a jiffy! I grabbed the ribeye steaks, threw them in a frying pan, got some water boiling to steam the broccoli and in maybe a little over a half hour dinner was ready!Read on

Primal Pumpkin Pie Pancakes and Bacon

Primal Pumpkin Pie Pancakes and Bacon

Have you ever noticed how recipes call for 1/2 cup or a full cup of an ingredient that you really don’t know what else you’ll use the extra to make? Insert can of pumpkin here. I’ve got a bunch of different recipes book marked on my computer that I’m transferring to my Pinterest page and among them were a few different pumpkin pancake recipes. I read the different recipes that listed partial uses of a can of pumpkin and decided to create my own, with no leftover canned pumpkin to figure out what to do with afterward.Read on

Green Smoothie with Parsley

Green Smoothie with a hint of Parsley

I just came back from the pool and I swear I think I’ve struck the jack pot! I’ve been “shoppin around” for a pool in my area that I could make my main pool to go to regularly throughout the winter – and by winter I mean during the 9 months of the year while the outdoor pool I usually go to in the summer is closed. If it wasn’t freezing cold outside for 3/4ths of the year I’d absolutely prefer to swim outdoors, but since I don’t live in the Caribbean that’s not possible. But my search has come to an end and like I said, I’ve struck gold! Basically I’ve got my own personal 6 lane pool, personal lifeguard and I don’t have to do any maintenance or upkeep. See…GOLD! :) Read on

I Tried A Tri (and I Liked It!)

On Sunday August 7th I competed in my first triathlon and absolutely loved it! But in order to really understand my motivation behind signing up we have to go back to almost a year ago.Read on

6 Reasons YOU Should Be Running in the Rain

I was up early this morning to drop Dave off at the airport after a nice long visit and decided instead of going back home and going to bed that I’d run some errands to pick up some groceries, stop at the library, drop off some items at Good Will and for my last stop I was going to drop off my car for an oil change at the dealer and go for a run.

Since my triathlon two weeks ago (I’ll have a recap on that coming soon!), I haven’t been running because I wanted to spend time hanging out with Dave & Adam while they were in town and this morning I made up mind that I was going to run.Read on

Marla at the L.A.T.E. Ride Chicago

Tri Training (day 5 & 6)

Jeff & I registered months ago to participate in this years L.A.T.E Ride Chicago and I woke up Saturday morning excited for the 25 mile ride we had ahead of us later that night! After visiting with friends at a BBQ we headed directly to Target and bought Jeff his required helmet along with some lights for our bikes and walked in the store one minute before they closed. We drove home, grabbed everything we needed then rode our bikes to the Elmhurst train station to make our way downtown for the ride.Read on

Tri Training (day 3)

I’m three days in, how many days before I can call it a routine? :)

Instead of riding my bike to the pool today I had to drive. The window I had available to swim and get back, before having to take Alpha for his regular check-up at the vet, was too small to ride my bike to the pool and get back in time.

Today was a cloudy day at the pool and that meant it was slightly cold to lift my arms out of the water, but just like when I swam when I was little (like my little sister Hannah swimming in the picture above), you just push through and a couple minutes in you don’t feel cold anymore. No complaints, just do it! I stayed for about an hour before leaving to continue my day.Read on
